The first stop is one of the oldest Venetian boatyards that started its activity at the end of the 15th century until 1920 when it closed its business. It still preserves the atmosphere, smells and tools that were used for the construction and maintenance of typical Venetian boats. In the squero it seems that time has stopped in one of the happiest moments of its history.
We give you the opportunity also to meet a local craftsman in the workshop where he works every day to get to know the activity more closely. You will meet a remèr, a Venetian oar maker. Today there are only four remèri in Venice!
You can observe him while he is working oars and forcole by hand. He makes unique items: each oar or forcola is tailor-made for the individual client. He uses traditional instruments and is convinced that handcrafting oars and forcole is the only way to guarantee their quality and specificity while respecting the characteristics of the wood.
You can buy some souvenirs from his shop to remember this exciting experience you had.
